Carbide & Carbon & Caremor (Original & Skretch)

Ever since I learned about the Carbide & Carbon building on a Chicago architecture tour, I can’t unsee the building as a champagne bottle. The golden topper’s intricacy is beautifully designed so I purposefully made that a focal point in my rendition too!

The Carbide & Carbon & Caremor Skretch (acrylic on canvas) was the initial sketch I intended to paint as a study for the original. True to me, I very easily got pulled in by the details as it happened in this case and thus the original was created first. However the skribble version of it kept nagging at me. Since I initially wanted to include more of the bridge and river, I decided to use this opportunity to correct some mistakes I’d made in the original and make some new ones. Thus the Skretch version came to life.
